Raising awareness about the importance of waste segregation at the household level through meetings, street plays, and IEC materials.

Working closely with Gram Panchayats to ensure regular, systematic waste collection from every household.

Providing hands-on training on safe waste handling, personal hygiene, and eco-friendly disposal methods.

Door-to-Door Waste Collection Coordination
Training for Waste Collectors and SHGs
Infrastructure Development

Setting up compost pits, material recovery facilities (MRFs), and waste storage units to support decentralized waste management.

Conducting regular field visits, community feedback sessions, and data tracking to improve overall waste management practices.

Monitoring and Continuous Improvement

As India strides toward a cleaner and greener future, Solid Waste Management (SWM) has become a vital component of sustainable rural development. PSRWS works as a key implementing agency across Phansidewa, Naxalbari, Matigara, and Kharibari blocks.

Solid Waste Management in Action

This gallery captures the key activities of our Solid Waste Management initiative across rural areas. From awareness campaigns and door-to-door waste collection to segregation, composting, and infrastructure setup — each moment reflects our commitment to cleaner, healthier communities. With the active involvement of Panchayats, SHGs, and local volunteers, we are working towards sustainable waste solutions that leave a lasting impact.

Waste Segregation at Source
  • Separate biodegradable, non-biodegradable, and hazardous waste at household and institutional levels.

  • Color-coded bins: Green (organic), Blue (recyclables), Red (hazardous).

Waste Reduction & Reuse
  • Encourage minimal packaging, bulk buying, and DIY reusables.

  • Reuse items like glass jars, cloth bags, and cardboard creatively.

Recycling & Composting
  • Promote community composting of kitchen and garden waste.

  • Support local recycling of plastics, paper, and metals through collection centers.

Proper Collection & Transportation
  • Ensure door-to-door collection with clear timing and routes.

  • Use covered, segregated waste transport vehicles to prevent roadside dumping.

Safe Disposal of Hazardous Waste
  • Train households on safe handling of batteries, e-waste, medical waste, etc.

  • Coordinate with municipalities for secure disposal systems.

Community Involvement & Monitoring
  • Form local monitoring groups for regular cleanliness checks.

  • Empower women, youth, and SHGs in waste awareness and tracking.

Awareness & Behavior Change
  • Regular campaigns, workshops, school programs, and cleanup drives.

  • Use visual storytelling (murals, street plays, QR-based info boards).
